Re: Nagios XI 5.5 - new NagVis error

Now everything is clear.
We are using AD to login to Nagios, so I was using my AD admin user (which has full admin on Nagios), which seems not to be enough.
I logged in to Nagios XI as the nagiosadmin user, and then NagVis started working for me and I could access its configuration.

This information should be embedded somewhere, that after upgrade of NagVis you need to login as "nagiosadmin" in order to get into the configuration of NagVis, all other users get the GUEST role on NagVis out of the box, and are useless.

Thank You very much for Your help!

Did you have any users with the same names as the "problem" users, that were created in NagVis prior to the upgrade? Perhaps you had an admin user (in XI) that was set as "guest" user (in NagVis)...

Try logging in NagVis as nagiosadmin, and deleting the "old" users. Then, log in in XI as an admin user, and try accessing the NagVis menus. You should be able to see the menus just fine and you should be automatically set as an admin (unless you had an old user with the same name in NagVis set as "non-admin" that you didn't delete). On the other hand, if you logged in XI as a "regular" user, then in NagVis, you would be set as a "read-only" user.

When a nagios user (local or AD/LDAP user) logs in NagVis now, it should log in automatically (using the XI credentials), and it should be set as an admin or read-only user, based on whether or not this was an admin user in XI.

I didn't add any users to NagVis previously, I had something set up that caused NagVis to assume that everyone is admin and let everyone edit the maps and so on.
But what You wrote was kind of right, some of the full admin users were added to NagVis, I deleted all users leaving nagiosadmin as the only one, then I logged in XI as my AD admin user, opened NagVis and I got logged in properly, and the user got automatically the admin role.

So how does this work?
Who gets the admin and manager roles automatically?

Admins in Nagios XI will automatically be set to admins. The other users are set to user (read-only).

Once the user is set up in NagVis the first time they visit the NagVis page (or you set them up manually), they will not change, so you can edit them inside NagVis all you want. The above permissions get set only if they don't exist in the list.
