Upgrade problem? / Suggestion

Post by jenstar13 »

Hi,
as I write this I'm doing the upgrade on my main XI instance. I have already upgraded my other instances that are not used as much as this instance.
It's seeming to take forever doing the backup of perfdata in /usr/local/nagios for "file changed as we read it"

Would it not be easier to copy the perfdata files to a temp directory, and use that for the backup tar? then delete that temp directory after the backup completes?
I'm already 15 minutes in, and it's still in the backup stage

Isn't this caused by the size of Your nagios folder?
My perfmon data alone is ~2GB so I believe this can take a while to compress (depending on the method), and if I check my temp folder I can see that the files that have been changed during the backup process are copied (or snapshoted) over there?

I would be also interested in hearing from Support how the process is handling these files being in use?

It could be, i didn't think to check until your post, it's a 10 gig folder, so that could be the cause
The backup finished an hour later and is now on the upgrade step

How did this go? Did it properly upgrade after the backup? Some systems backups take a long time because of backup size (it includes all of XI, Core, and perfdata)
