Hi,
I'm hopelessly behind with the updates of NagiosXI. I'm still on version 1.8 and want to update to the latest version. Do I need to download version 1.9 to 2.4 to update to the correct version or can I use the 2.4 installer package and update with that?

No, you can ( and would be recommended to ) go straight to the latest 2011R2.4
