Many network interface detection via window snmp wizard

Dear team,

when we configure window server via snmp wizard in our nagios XI server for network card monitor we get many interface which is not require or not available as per our customer they want to monitor only NIC card of server so could you please share any solution how to avoid to get many interface instead of NIC card.

Also how to identify which one is ethernet card among all interface.

It seems like you are using the Network Switch / Router wizard, not the Windows SNMP wizard as stated in the title. The output of the Switch wizard could be overwhelming. There is no option at the moment for filtering the interfaces. You will need to look for interfaces with "ethernet" in the name, and ignore all that have wireless, virtual, wan, miniport, etc. in order to select the correct one.

There should be a better way to do this. I had to do it the same way. Had to remote/powershell into 200 servers and read the names of the NICs we wanted to monitor.

It should also be part of the windows server monitor wizard.

You are correct. Adding some filtering to the results would help. Also, additional checks for monitoring interfaces could be added to other (e.g. Windows, Linux, etc.) wizards. I filed an internal feature request for adding this functionality, which is pending approval. Please keep in mind that the decision to implement the enhancement is at the sole discretion of our development team. Thank you!

One more thing - you could use the NCPA wizard in Nagios XI to achieve your goal. It would show you only the Local Area Connection, but you could review all of the interfaces by clicking on the link below it.

This is awesome! Any drawbacks compared to the NSClient agent?

NCPA hasn't been around as long as NSClient++ but as far as I can tell, it provides the same (or similar) functionality. NPCA is actively developed, it's our own (Nagios) agent, and thus it is better supported. Also, it is a cross-platform agent - you can use it in Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X, which is really convenient. You don't need to use different agents and configs for different operating systems.

If you had hundreds of machines, monitored via NSClient++ at the moment, it could be somewhat difficult to make a switch, but if you were just getting started, NCPA would be the way to go.

I don't know when/if the feature request that I filed (for adding better filtering to wizards) will be implemented.

Okey but this should be in the feature as Windows machine does have a lot of ports
