Question about databases open to all nagios users

So I am thinking about dumping postgresql and mysql and adopting/migrating to Mariadb as our database of choice.
But I wanted to ask the community for some advice:

If you have done this, have you noticed any stability or performance gains after converting to maria db?
or for all the seasoned db admins out there, are there any gotchas to be aware of if I decide to make the change?
That is, are there any gotchas involved with migrating mysql and postgresql to mariadb?
my environment is fairly robust with 2400 host checks and 13,000 service checks running every five mins or less.
and finaly are there any performance tweaks that I should be aware of that a mariadb admin would want to implement?

I haven't really seen much difference in mysql vs mariadb performance in my personal experience.

The only caveats to using mariadb is that if you use mariadb 10+ you will need some fixes, see here:
