Host relationship and recurrent downtime problem

ok, so maybe i could bypass this limit changing the downtime with a customized notification time..like this
router (master) with notification time from 08.00 to 18.00
host (slave) with notification time 24x7
So if the master goes down in the night i don't have an alarm, but if the master is up and the slave goes down at night i got an alarm from the host (aka the slave)
And if the master and the slave goes down at night i don't have any alarm so i can sleep well..
is this right?
