Insalling Nagios XI

Post by Grimlock »

Hi,

We are currently have a running version of NAGIOS Core 4.3.2. We are planning to install and implement Nagios XI to replace Nagios Core. I have read documentations available that to install Nagios XI, you need a new server or VM for it. We have some restriction regarding new resource in terms of new hardware, can I install Nagios XI on the same server as the running Nagios Core and then perform the migration ? Would Nagios XI overwrites Nagios Core when installed or it is installed on a different folder ?

Best of regards,

Installing Nagios XI on top of Nagios Core is definitely something that we do NOT recommend. Some of your files will get overwritten, the installer script may even fail...

I strongly recommend that you install Nagios XI on a "clean" system. If this is not possible, the only other way would be to make a backup of all of your Nagios Core configs, place them in a different (backup) directory, completely remove Nagios Core, and install Nagios XI. After you have XI up and running, you could import your Core configs into Nagios XI.

Please review our documentation on migrating from Nagios Core here:
