No alerts for certain services

Post by rzietlow »

Hello support

Twice we've seen now where IMAP/POP haven't alerted (service timeouts) but we've received other notifications in the past. Two weekends ago it was that way for over 9 hours (so that could rule out flapping)

When I look at the notification history for these services I see that they would flag previously on days we would patch.

we are on version 5.5.7, when it happened two weeks ago we were on 5.5.1.

please let me know which files to attach to aid in your troubleshooting

Thank you

Hello, @rzietlow. Let's try a little experiment. Open the problematic service on the home dashboard and click on the advanced tab. Disable active checks, for now. Then submit a passive check result -> CRITICAL, check output TEST until the current check attempts reaches the max value. The state type needs to become HARD, and the Service state needs to become Critical.

When this happens, take a screenshot of the advanced page and upload it in the thread.

I submitted 20 results (all critical, all with the "check output" as TEST) it never went hard, it stayed soft. (if it's OK and I submit an OK passive result state type does become "hard")

@rzietlow, What version of Nagios Core are you using? You can acess the core interface by adding /nagios/ to the XI IP address. For example, for my XI its http://192.168.3.155/nagios/
When it prompts you for a login and password enter the XI username/password. Once you sign in you should be able to see the Core version in a middle of the screen.

@rzietlow, This looks like a bug on our side. I passed this information to our Dev team and they're working on a "hotfix".
As a temporary solution you may try executing the following commands:
service nagios stop
/usr/local/nagios/var/status.dat
/usr/local/nagios/var/retention.dat
service nagios start
However, this will get rid of all already existing downtime, acknowledgments, and comments.

ok good to know it's not us going crazy.

in the commands are those going to be rm's? right now that's the only one we've noticed that doesn't flag, we will just keep an eye on it, and our admins will know that they need to check those services manually should anything happen to that server.

@rzietlow, Sounds good! To answer your question, commands, services or anything else in the CCM will not get deleted after you run the commands that I gave you. Only downtime, acknowledgments and comments.
