Hi,
our Nagios server is a vm that was deployed as an pre-built appliance downloaded from your site a few years ago. We are currently running version 5.5.7. We've recently upgraded our VMware environment and would like to upgrade our virtual machines to use the latest version of VMware tools and also VMware hardware version 13. VMware shows that our Nagios virtual machine has "guest managed" VMware tools, which typically means that the vm is running open-vm-tools or an os specific package supplied by the Linux distro. Do you have any insight on how the VMware tools are packaged for the Nagios appliance? how to upgrade? thx.

Re: upgrading vmware tools on nagios appliance
Hello, @facc_se. I checked on my XI VM and it doesn't look like Nagios is supplying VMware tools out of the box.
Then I found this article:
https://exchange.nagios.org/components/ ... 1&cf_id=24
https://exchange.nagios.org/components/ ... 1&cf_id=24
So if someone set up VMware tools in the past there should still be a VMWare repository. Have you tried running:

Re: upgrading vmware tools on nagios appliance
ok thanks. I think you're exactly right and you helped lead me to a solution. The "VMware-tools" repository mentioned in the wiki-link (referenced in the Nagios exchange doc that you provided) existed on our server and pointed to the exact same location as in the article:npolovenko wrote:Hello, @facc_se. http://packages.vmware.com/tools/esx/5. ... x86_64.rpm
However, I think that is an old repo. Might want to inform your documentation folks.
.
I found this link to help me determine how to remove that repo:
https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14934
ran these commands to identify and remove the repo:
# rpm -qf /etc/yum.repos.d/vmware-osps.repo
# yum remove vmware-tools-repo-RHEL6-9.0.0-2.x86_64
Next I found this URL which guided me thru adding the correct repo and updating the tools:
https://www.jacobtomlinson.co.uk/2014/1 ... -with-yum/
command to update tools:
# yum update vmware-tools-esx-nox
Thanks this is resolved now.

@facc_se, Glad you resolved this. And I will ask the documentation department to update the repo in that article, thanks!
