I am receiving Problem Host alert notifications every time a service alert notifications is sent out in Nagios XI stating that the host is up, I am also receiving Recovery Host Alert notifications is up every time the same service has recovered. Is there anyway that I can stop sending the host alert notifications every time a service alert is generated and recovered?

Hello @hlaten01,
If you click on your username in the upper right hand corner, and select Notification Preferences from the left hand menu you can adjust the notifications settings for both hosts and services such turning off notifications for recoveries.
Another way of minimizing excessive notification is to use service dependencies.

Re: 4 alerts notifications generated for each service alert
Thank you for the reply on this issue. I do understand about modifying the alerts for my username and have instructed other users in the process and how it is accomplished. I need to remedy this problem globally, we have close to 5,000 users. We have the “host_down_disable_service_checks” deployed globally, and this does work in stopping alerts for services if the host is down.
Sorry if what i need is not clear. We have close to 1600 servers that we deploy and in Nagios now we have only about 350 actually as hosts. I am truing up our Nagios framework and I am going to trim down the 5,000 emails we get throughout a week just for the 350 servers we are monitoring now. For every service alert and warning 4 emails are created for each alert or warning. The email for each warning or alerts are described below:
HostFQDN replaces the actual server name receiving the alert or warning for security practice
1st email received

Re: 4 alerts notifications generated for each service alert
Hi @hlaten01,
In Nagios XI, there is a distinction between contacts and users. A user corresponds to an account with login access to the web administration interface, while a contact is simply an individual to be notified of host or service state changes ( ie. warning, critical, down..etc).

Either way to remedy this issue globally I would suggest modifying the contact templates from the Core Configuration Manager. Select Contact Templates, and select either generic-contact ( contacts) or xi_generic-contact (users), click on Alert Settings and change your host and service notification options, save and apply configuration. For example, disabling recovery and up notifications for hosts.
Let me know if you're able to get it setup as needed. If you're still having issues, please PM your system profile and I can take a look at your object definitions.

Re: 4 alerts notifications generated for each service alert
Thanks for the input and suggestions on this and I did call contacts users and do know the difference, but thanks for clearing that up. My nagios dev server does not do the 4 emails just 2 for down and up. I am compariong nagios.cfg on both to see if I can find a difference. Contact templates are the same on dev and prod. I will keep up the research to try and find where someone has changed some setting that make this happen. Thank you.
