Nagios Email not working

Post by kvnguyen89 »

Hi all,

I installed Nagios Core onto Ubuntu 18.04. I cannot get the Nagios email to work. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I followed many advice from the past fourm but still cannot get it to work. Can someone please help me?

contacts.cfg

Code: Select all

# CONTACTS
#
###############################################################################

# Just one contact defined by default - the Nagios admin (that's you)
# This contact definition inherits a lot of default values from the
# 'generic-contact' template which is defined elsewhere.

define contact {

    contact_name nagiosadmin ; Short name of user
    use generic-contact ; Inherit default values from generic-contact template (defined above)
    alias Nagios Admin ; Full name of user
    email [email protected] ; <<***** CHANGE THIS TO YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS ******
}

###############################################################################
#
# CONTACT GROUPS
#
###############################################################################

# We only have one contact in this simple configuration file, so there is
# no need to create more than one contact group.

define contactgroup {

    contactgroup_name       admins
    alias                   Nagios Administrators
    members                 nagiosadmin
}
command.cfg

Code: Select all

define command {

    command_name    notify-host-by-email
    command_line    /usr/bin/printf "%b" "***** Nagios *****\n\nNotification Type: $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$\nHost: $HOSTNAME$\nState: $HOSTSTATE$\nAddress: $HOSTADDRESS$\nInfo: $HOSTOUTPUT$\n\nDate/Time: $LONGDATETIME$\n" | /bin/mail -s "** $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$ Host Alert: $HOSTNAME$ is $HOSTSTATE$ **" $CONTACTEMAIL$

Hello @kvnguyen89

Also, take a look the your definitions for hosts and services. For example, make sure you have directives to determine when notfications should be sent, so for example, warning, critical...etc.

Code: Select all

define service{
	host_name		linux-server
	service_description	check-disk-sda1
	check_command		check-disk!/dev/sda1
	max_check_attempts	5
	check_interval	5
	retry_interval	3
	check_period		24x7
	notification_interval	30
	notification_period	24x7
	notification_options	w,c,r
	contact_groups		linux-admins
	}
Also review your log file for errors in /var/log/maillog
