Question on restoring after an upgrade

I am in the process of needing to upgrade from Nagios XI 2014R2.5 to the current version. I am going to be building a Red Hat Enterprise Linux version release 7.5. If I was to run the script backup_xi.sh from the old version, could I restore it on the new version. I have a lot of historical data and don't want the risk of losing it all. Any suggestions on this would be great.

It would be best to upgrade your current machine to the latest version before migrating to the new machine.
