Email Notifications not working correctly on NagiosXI

Hello,

We have configured NagiosXI to send emails to a specific contact groups. When we experience events relating to the hosts we have configured this for, we do see on the NagiosXI web UI that notifications reported they were sent, however, the users never get some of these emails.

At certain instances, we get a few emails, sometimes just one, but nagios reports that it does send the emails. Manual test emails from Nagios works perfectly.

It also does happen that a particular contact who is not part of the contact group (Nagios Admin to be precise) gets notified perfectly when all these events occur. And all the users have the exact same contact setting as the Nagios Admin contact.

We have checked every possible setting but can't seem to find out why nagios reports that it has notified the contacts in the contact group, but we don't get the emails.

Let's troubleshoot a specific host/service notification issue.

What is the host or the service that you are not receiving notifications for? What is the name of the monitoring contact, added to this object? Is this a "xi user" or a "contact only"? Are you using SMTP or Sendmail?

Log in as your user, click on the username in the upper right corner, click on the "Notification Preferences", and "Notification Methods" links, and show us screenshots of both pages.

Go to Reports > Available Reports > Notifications, and show us a screenshot about a notification that nagios "thinks" it's been sent, but your contact hasn't received it.

PM me (or any other tech on the Nagios support team) your profile:

Hi,

We probably figured out what the issue is.

We enabled the debug logs for SMTP and saw this in the logs:

SMTP server error: MAIL FROM command failed Detail: Message submission rate for this client has exceeded the configured limit

We adjusted the limit accordingly on our SMTP server and will monitor what email delivery is like afterwards.

We'll circle back here if that doesn't do the trick.
