is there any way to disable alert for a particular host or service if we know it would take some time to have the issue resolved?

From the host/service detail page under "Quick Actions" you can choose to "Acknowledge this problem"

Additionally, under the Advanced tab you can click the X next to Notifications to also disable them.

for snmp trapsender does it take notifications or alerts to be trapped over to the snmp trap receiver?

i think i am confused on how snmp trapsender and notifications / alerts work together.
in our setup, we do not have any contacts or contact groups setup. All alerts are sent directly using snmp trapsender to a 3rd party receiver. My confusion is over how the settings in "Alert Settings" of the service impact this trap sending task. Main confusion over notifications and alerts.
In which setting can i find the frequency of snmp trap alerts being sent or does it trigger a trap message every time a check takes place and return a warning or critical state and is completely standalone from notifications or alerts?

if snmp trapsender trigger a trap message every time a check takes place and return a warning or critical state and is completely standalone from notifications or alerts then, will snmp trapsender send any trap messages out to the 3rd party snmp trap receiver for the following scenarios?

1. if i click on "Acknowledge this problem" in the service that is returning "critical" which will not be resolved immediately (eg. needs lead time to replace hard disk)

2. if i exclude a particular host from a common service that is applied to a host group

3. If i schedule downtime for a fixed or flexible period for a particular host or host group

The frequency of the items being sent would be in your state history report

1. if i click on "Acknowledge this problem" in the service that is returning "critical" which will not be resolved immediately (eg. needs lead time to replace hard disk)

3. If i schedule downtime for a fixed or flexible period for a particular host or host group

In order to answer any of these I would need to see the Alert settings for the service we are referring to because it is different depending on the settings specified.

And for clarity, you are wondering how/when Nagios XI will send traps using the Trap Sender component correct?

If so, could you also send a screenshot of the settings page in there as well?

yes you are right. want to clarify on :

1. how/when Nagios XI will send traps using the Trap Sender component correct?
2. notifications vs alerts
3. where in Nagios web can i find the alerts that were sent through snmp trapsender

The Traps are sent when the state changes, depending on the settings you have on the Trap Sender Component.

These send on state change and are not dependent on if notifications are sent.

You can see a list of state changes in the State History report, however this is all state changes, and may differ from those sent through the trap sender component.

There is no list logged of what items are send via the Trap Sender
