We are looking at hardware requirements to replace our NagiosXI environment. I am trying to understand where hardware can make a difference.
Our current server is monitoring 2400 devices and is running about 13,500 services. We currently have 24g of memory and dual 8-core cpu on our Nagios server. Does NagiosXI like the log server have a max on memory? Can we go to 64g or 128g?
Do we leave the CPU as is or give it a bump up.
Currently our database is off-loaded to another server. If we move to SSD I think we have to have it local. Is local SSD better than a database on a remote spinning disk?
Thanks,
Greg

XI doesn't have this limitation, so yes you can bump it up to 128GBgregwhite wrote:Does NagiosXI like the log server have a max on memory? Can we go to 64g or 128g?
For sure, I would highly recommend SSD's for any server XI and it's associated databases are on. I believe SSD's with the database on the local server is the best solution.gregwhite wrote: If we move to SSD I think we have to have it local. These fast disks are going to have the single biggest impact of any hardware you put in the new server, the RAM and CPU's are important but the disk access speed and IOPS is the usual bottleneck.
