Need to create Lookup users

we use an AD integration, but what I want to know is how to limit some of out users (level one techs) so they can see the alerts but not do anything else,

is there a best practice way of doing this?

Users will see objects (hosts/services) they've been added to as monitoring contacts. There is no way to make them see only alerts, but you could make them "read-only" users, so that they wouldn't be able to make any changes to the system.

Thanks - that is what in a roundabout way I am asking, how to make them read-only?

Edit the user under Admin > Users > Manage Users, and there is a Read-Only option under the Security Settings section.
