Greetings again.
I was wrong about about able to get the basic one to work.
I was between tasks and did not have a change to go through all the trouble shooting to report back.
So, I actually have not able to get the basic ping or url to monitor.
This is what I got back after running wizard configuration for pinging a host or an url.

Re: Installating XI Linux Agent fail
If you enter the Nagios Core Configuration Manager, and select tool from the list on the left, then select Write Config Files. This allows you to see if any errors occurred and where they did. Be sure to start at the top "Write monitoring data" and work your way down.
Re: Installating XI Linux Agent fail
One of the errors from monitoring configuration snapshots:
Processing object config file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/services/www.galco.com.cfg'...
Processing object config file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/services/app1.galco.com.cfg'...
Processing object config file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/services/localhost.cfg'...
Error: Invalid max_check_attempts value for host 'app1' Error: Could not register host (config file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/hosts/app1.cfg', starting on line 14) Error processing object config files!

Check your configuration file(s) to ensure that they contain valid
directives and data defintions. If you are upgrading from a previous
version of Nagios, you should be aware that some variables/definitions
may have been removed or modified in this version. Make sure to read
the HTML documentation regarding the config files, as well as the
'Whats New' section to find out what has changed.

Re: Installating XI Linux Agent fail
Go to the Core Config Manager->Monitoring->Hosts-><find your host "app1">->Modify->Check Settings tab, enter a valid "Max. check attempts", for example 5, click on "Save", and "Apply Configuration".

Re: Installating XI Linux Agent fail
I am get a hand on how to trouble shoot and fix the compitation errors.
While testing to see if the alerting functionality is work I ran into this problem:
I could not update the alerting contact information for this host.
Error**************
Entry cannot be activated because it is used by another configuration:
Relational information for app2.galco.com -- WDS Replication Server of table tbl_host:
Relation to tbl_contact, entry alert1@galco.com - deletion possible
Relation to tbl_hostgroup, entry linux-servers - deletion possible
Relation to tbl_hosttemplate, entry xiwizard_genericnetdevice_host - deletion possible
Relation to tbl_service, entry app2.galco.com -- WDS production replication server-Ping - deletion not possible.
The Alert Settings still show multiple alert contact info and error still show up even after I restart Nagios through Core Config Manager menu.
I want to delete every other contact within the Aler Settings, Contact* menu and keep only the alert1@galco.com
I also want to remove everything within the Contact Group*

Re: Installating XI Linux Agent fail
I want to start from scratch so I start to delete all other hosts and services and only working on one host and once services at a time.
I am current has only one host and one service that I want to see it the alerting will work.
There are no error but the alert still not working.
I am still missing some....
I select the alert1 under the alerting, contact list, I select the E-Mail address as a method of alerting.
No sure why it did not send out an alert to the email address that I defined.

Re: Installating XI Linux Agent fail
You can add or remove monitoring contacts (or contact groups) under the Host (or Service) Management.I want to delete every other contact within the Aler Settings, Contact* menu and keep only the alert1@galco.com
I also want to remove everything within the Contact Group*
For example, go to:
Core Config Manager->Monitoring->Hosts-><your_host>Modify->Alert Settings tab, click on the "Modify" button next to "Contacts" or "Contact groups", select a contact (or a contact group) and use the green arrows to move it to (or out of) the "Selected" field. Click on "Save", "Save", and "Apply Configuration".
You can add or remove contacts by going to: Core Config Manager->Alerting->Contacts.
You can add, remove, or modify contact groups by going to: Core Config Manager->Alerting->Contact Groups.
Please, review these documents. They can help you learn how to manage your hosts and contacts.

Re: Installating XI Linux Agent fail
I went through all the items you mention below. Have not read the .pdf file yet.....
"You can add or remove contacts by going to: Core Config Manager->Alerting->Contacts.

It should work with only one server and only one ping task without one has to go through the whole .pdf file document guide.
Here is what the problem might be: The event handler.....which one to select....
What to select Under Event handler...
If I am under the following menu path: Core Config Manager, Monitoring, Services, Check Setting:
Event handler: What should I select?
Under Core Config Manager, Monitoring, Hosts, Common Settings:
Check command: check_ping
Command view: $USER1$/check_ping -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -w $ARG1$ -c $ARG2$ -p 5
What about under the following menu path: Core Config Manager, Monitoring, Hosts ?
I am assuming I should only use either Hosts or services and not both?

Re: Installating XI Linux Agent fail
This is frustrating..for not able to get only a ping service to work via the intuitive GUI menu.
Here are my configuration...
Please tell me what am I missing?
It seems the system only allow to upload three attachment. I will upload number 7 and 8 on the next post.

Re: Installating XI Linux Agent fail
Here is the rest of the screen shoot for the configuration of only one server,
the service is to ping the server to see if it is up or not then send and alert to alert1@galco.com
