The best way to install?

Post by tanod »

Hello,

We will soon buy a Nagios XI licence.

But there is the question of installation.

I see 3 solutions :
_ Install .ova for ESXi :
Probably the easiest way. But how about durability and maintenance ? Is it intended for trial only ?
_ Manual install on CentOS
CentOS seems to be the recommanded OS. But we do not have people who know CentOS.
_ Manuel install on Debian
Not the recommanded OS. But is it inadvisable ? We do have people who know Debian.

Is the update procedure different depending on the installation?

Thank you! :D

Hi @tanod,

We recommend installing on a clean, minimal installation on one of the supported Linux distributions such as CentOS. The quickest method is to use the OVA.

Once you have an operating system installed, the procedure is the same and simply requires running the install script. Upgrades can be done from user the interface in Nagios XI in the administration page.

Also, we fully support Debian/Ubuntu, so if you are most comfortable with that distribution, that's not a problem.

I would recommend signing up for a free QuickStart, and we can help you get up and running quickly.

Hi @benjaminsmith,

I've been testing Nagios XI for a few days.
I installed it from the ova.
But I wonder if there is a particular reason to also offer a manual installation, or if it's only to let the user choose his OS.

If we choose CentOS, there is no reason to do a manual installation instead of taking ova ?

Thank you

Hi @tanod,

The ova will install Cent 7, so if you want a different distribution or you're installing on physical hardware, you would would to use the manual installation. The ova is available to save time.
