Monitoring a VSS separately

Post by axvers »

Hi,

We have to monitor some Cisco 6509 switches, and I am not familiar with network devices.

The question is: there are 2 switches set as VSS, so I would see only one snmp response no matter which ip I queried.

Is that possible to check 2 different values (e.g. 2 CPU usage, bandwidth on each physical port...) on this VSS via snmp?

I would check with Cisco to make sure, but https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/produ ... 429338.pdf says:
After the two individual switches are converted into a Virtual Switching System, the console access is restricted to only the active virtual switch. In this case you can handle all configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting under a single interface.
It's not clear by the usage of can if one is still able monitor each machine individually or if there may be a way to monitor the standby switch through the active switch.
