Service Alert Message: Default is not the Default?

Post by mbeebe »

Hi again,

I'm trying to change the default Service Alert Message template.

I make my change to the template in the edit window, make sure the name of the template is Default Template, click "save" and get the message the template has been successfully saved and my changes are still in the window.

Then I leave the admin screen, and come back to the Notification Settings Management screen. My changes are gone. The template is back how it was before I made the changes.

If I load the "Default Template" from the load template dropdown, my changes are there. If I re-save, I get the success message. But if I leave the admin screen again, the changes once again vanish.

It's like the "Default" template isn't actually the default.

Any idea what might be happening?

That is interesting. I was able to reproduce the behavior you describe. I was able to work around it by checking the "Set these notification messages as default for all users" checkbox. It must be remembering the original layout as long as at least one user has it as their default.

Very interesting! I seem to have a knack for finding odd Nagios behavior.

What is the ramification if I click the "Set these notification messages as default for all users" checkbox?

Well, if no one has anything other than the default template set, I don't think there should be a problem. In fact, I would imagine that you would want to click that checkbox in such a case.

However, if there are users who have different notification templates set as their defaults, they would need to be reset after checking that check box and saving the default to everyone.

Ok, thanks -- I'll give that a try tomorrow and report back.

Yup -- that worked just great. The template is now in place.

Thanks for the help!
