Feature Request: Auto add "_" to free variables

If the "_" is required at the beginning of a free host/service variable, then the input validation for that part of the form should check for it and automatically add it if it's not there.

I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten that and had to Google why it failed. The UI should be smart enough to solve this problem for me.

This is something we've discussed internally a couple of times. Rarely, we've had customers run into issues where they needed to specify some property on an object, and were unable to do this via the "normal" CCM interface. As a workaround, we have them use the Free Variables page to manually add those properties. The only other option I'm aware of would be a static config, which is... really not ideal.

That said, I could have sworn we added a warning when adding "incorrect" free variables like this, but maybe it didn't make it into the right place. We'll try to add something in for 5.7.

I think you have a point here. I filed an internal feature request for adding this functionality. The decision to implement the enhancement is at the sole discretion of our development team.
