Does nrpe wait for the response?

This is probably a dumb question, but I haven't found an exact answer. When check_nrpe issues a service check, does is wait for the response or does another process receive the reply?

I see individual process checks running with htop. The ps command just shows nagios and a low of workers.

It waits for a response

I see individual process checks running with htop. The ps command just shows nagios and a low of workers.

These are other non check_nrpe processes all of which should wait for a response before closing the process
