Does a warning alert reset the counter before a Hard alert?

Post by hbouma »

We have some services setup to require 3 failures before they go to a hard state. Looking at some of them, they are going Critical Soft, Warning Soft, Critical Hard. Is the Warning state suppose to reset the counter?

We are running Nagios XI 5.6.10 on 64BIT RHEL 7.6 VMs. No Mod Gearman.

That should be read bottom to top. So the first time it checked, it got a CRITICAL, and went to soft state because it had 2 more checks to make. The second time it checked, it returned a WARNING, so still in soft state. The third time it checked, it got a CRITICAL again, reached its max check attempts, and went into a hard state.

The warning won't reset the counter. The counter continues to increment as non-OK states are returned.
