NRPE Agent Benefits

Post by MartinSchaible »

Hello

I can not understand at the moment, for what reason i should install the NRPE agent on my servers. What are the benefits compared to SNMP?

Thank you

Hi Martin,

The main benefit of installing an agent is the flexibility in what you're able to monitor and check. There are thousands of plugins on the Nagios Exchange for running checks on the device and its applications. This can be done via SSH as well, but an agent takes fewer resources.

As far as agents go, I would recommend NCPA over NRPE as it has more features.
