Issue with Scheduled Downtime

Post by tchandra »

Hi All,

I have scheduled downtime for one of our Application server(Timings: 24-Feb-2020 to 09-Mar-2020).

However, We are getting alerts in Event logs and Automatic Tickets are raised.

If you observe , highlighted service windows service is in downtime at 2020-03-05 15:51:15 , after this service notifications sent out at 2020-03-05 16:11:03 and again service entered into downtime at 2020-03-05 17:15:52 . Why it is happening like this.

This shouldn't happen when the host is in scheduled downtime.

Please find the attachments and suggest how can we solve this issue.

Regards,
Chandra.

So when services are in scheduled downtime, they are still checked and go through the normal check states. It's only the notifications that are prevented from being sent out.

How are automated tickets raised in your solution? Sent using contacts or event handlers?

Hi All,

When we are scheduling downtime, Events are generating in Event logs.

We are more interested to know when this is happening. Scheduling downtime is not continuous and some times it gets stopped and start again, in this duration events are generated in Nagios.

Please help us in knowing and solving why the logs are getting generated when the hosts and services are scheduled for downtime.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi All,

We are more interested to know why this is happening. However, after downtime scheduled , why downtime stopped and starts again and generating event logs . Usually In this duration event logs should not be generated.

please help us in solving this issue why events logs are generated during fixed downtime and why downtime stopped & started again.

Thanks in advance.

In Nagios, scheduling downtime is simply telling the Nagios engine that this is a period where issues are expected to occur and not to send notifications during this period. Nagios still performs checks during this period, this is it's defined behaviour.

An alternate solution is explained in the following KB article where you disable service checks:
https://support.nagios.com/kb/article/n ... s-505.html

However this still requires Nagios to detect the host is down, there is no way to avoid this.
