Network devices monitoring through Nagios XI
Network devices monitoring through Nagios XI
Hi Team,
We have 250 network devices to be monitored from Nagios XI. I have a few queries regarding the same, please help me on the same.
We are using Nagios XI 5.6.8.
1. Can we monitor network devices using Nagios XI?
2. What all parameters we can monitor for the network devices (switches and routers)?
3. As we have almost 250 devices, is there any way to configure monitoring from backend in one go for all? As I have checked the configuration wizard for switches/routers in Nagios XI, there we need to configure the devices one by one which is really time consuming.
4. Do we need to install any agent as we do for servers? If not, what all things needs to be done on the network device?
In other words, I need a complete overview regarding the network devices monitoring and how to do it in bulk.
Thanks in advance!!

anything that the device has available via SNMP, basic items such as bandwidth can be setup easily vis the Switch / Router WizardRIDS_I2MP wrote:2. What all parameters we can monitor for the network devices (switches and routers)?
You can do them in bulk in the Switch / Router Wizard in the "Bulk Configuration" sectionRIDS_I2MP wrote:3. No, most all network devices are SNMP enables, you would just need to setup SNMP on each if it is not already.RIDS_I2MP wrote:4. Do we need to install any agent as we do for servers? If not, what all things needs to be done on the network device?

Thanks for your reply!!
I was unable to find the "Bulk Configuration" section, can you please help me to find it and work on it with an example if possible?
We also want to monitor the High utilization alerts of ports and CPU, please let us know knw if that is possible, if yes then how?

What version of Nagios XI are you running?RIDS_I2MP wrote: I was unable to find the "Bulk Configuration" section, can you please help me to find it and work on it with an example if possible?
The wizard I suggested will do the High utilization alerts of ports, but for CPU you would need to find the SNMP oid for each of the switches to monitor and set that up separately with the SNMP WizardRIDS_I2MP wrote:We also want to monitor the High utilization alerts of ports and CPU, please let us know knw if that is possible, if yes then how?
Re: Network devices monitoring through Nagios XI
Hi,
We are using Nagios XI 5.6.8. I have attached the screenshot of the wizard that I am talking about.
If we want to configure CPU utilization using SNMP Wizard, can that be done in bulk as well?

You can use something like this:I have updated to the latest version.

You can use different community strings for different servers. In my example, I just show "public", but you can change that.
Which SNMP wizard are you talking about - Linux SNMP, WIndows SNMP, etc.?Also, please let me know If we want to configure CPU utilization using SNMP Wizard, can that be done in bulk as well?
