I have my nagios alerts going to [email protected] , one of the members is another distribution list.
THe nested distribution list is NOT getting the alerts. why? is this possible/valid?

Well, it certainly seems possible, but I haven't encountered this specific issue before. For clarification, what software are you using to manage the distribution lists, and have you had a chance to check logs for any error messages?
One option would be to set up a contact group with Nagios XI with the nested email group and send the email directly to that address from within Nagios. Let me know if that would work for you.
