Dear All
in the past, once upon a time, when we upgraded our NagiosXI from 4 to 5, we had some issue (later we overcame) but after that till date we did not upgrade many minor version as we know we will lost our customization. So we do humble request that plz make sure if we go to NagiosXI 6.0, it will be very smooth (just one click upgrade), will incorporate each requirement with silent patching/installing needed components by NagiosXI 6.0 script.
for us it will be very big upgrade from 5.x.x to 6.x.x
sure we will take snapshot (will take backup too), however plz make sure it will be very smooth upgrade from 5.x.x to 6.x.x
regards
for future upgrade to NagiosXI 6.0 humble request
Re: for future upgrade to NagiosXI 6.0 humble request
Development has stated that while they may not allow a direct upgrade from XI 5 to XI 6 (this is to be determined) they intend to at least provide a process for migration/transition if they don't allow a direct upgrade.
What customization have you done that an upgrade was causing you to lose them? Be specific so I can help you determine if those changes would be picked up in a migration and plan for what you will need to do. It really depends on what specific changes have been done, the only things I can think of would be if you modified default components/configwizards/or XI source files that would be reverted on an upgrade. If those are what you are modifying then you will have problems with any upgrade/migration you do as the source code and default components have changed over time.
Are you modifying the default components/wizards or are you talking about new ones you've added/written yourself (that doesn't use the same component/configwizard name as ours use)?
What XI version are you currently on?

dear ssax
nothing so special (some security issue), our Front-End unable to pull graph from Nagios.
We have currently 5.2.x, mainly we have done on DISPLAY_NAME, we have requested many time to you (Nagios Team) to incorporate DISPLAY_NAME in XI6.0 everywhere then I think no issue for us.
We need DISPLAY_NAME in the following options.
HOST detail
SERVICE detail
OPERATION CENTER
CCM
CONFIG Wizard
Email NOTIFICATION
MRTG/RRD graph (with Period at bottom too)
Report/Bandwidth/SLA/Availability/Top Alert Producers
Whatever options are there in NAGIOSxi, please keep it, we asking all as additional, nothing to replace, plz provide option to customer/user to select the choice what he/she wants in Global Config or on fly.

Re: for future upgrade to NagiosXI 6.0 humble request
I can submit a feature request for you, and I'll make sure to add our conversation to the notes for review. The developers do implement a lot of requests based on the feedback we get from our users. We really appreciate your input.
Given those changes listed, the will likely be reverted on an upgrade, honestly, I don't believe there will be an option to introduce old code into the system or allow you to migrate old code. That's why it's not recommended to modify source files because they will be overwritten with later code changes and creates future issues with maintainability.
Let us know if you have any other questions or comments.

Host/Service Details - In the current latest version you can already enable showing the display name by clicking on your username in the top right corner and setting these:
I've created these with a link back to the thread:
You are already able to update the notification commands to include the host/service display names, you can use these macros:
$HOSTDISPLAYNAME$ (already in by default so you can use %hostdisplayname% in your notification templates)
$SERVICEDISPLAYNAME$ (you will need to add this to the xi_service_notification_handler command in CCM > Commands)
You can follow this guide to do it:
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... iables.pdf
You'll need to be clearer on what you want for these before I can submit the Feature Requests:
What option are you looking for in
Code: Select all
Display host display names (replaces host name on host/service status and host status detail pages)
Display service display names (replaces service name in service status and service status detail pages)Code: Select all
XI - Add Display Name to Operation Center for hosts/services
XI - CCM - Add host display name and service display name columns to the CCM hosts/services views
XI - Add host/service display name to Bandwidth/SLA/Availability reports$HOSTDISPLAYNAME$ (already in by default so you can use %hostdisplayname% in your notification templates)
$SERVICEDISPLAYNAME$ (you will need to add this to the xi_service_notification_handler command in CCM > Commands)

Network Router/Switch Wizard (all mess now)
old was very good, just was needed to add new column=Display_Name (editable) separately but messed up
new , why you changed from Full Port Description to Short?
what a mess if we upgrade and all our style change from Full to Short Port Description
Please provide option to user to select he need FULL Port Name (Description) or SHORT Port Name (Service Name=Service Description)
old added will have FULL Port Name and will add new one with SHORT Port Name (Service Name=Service Description)

The latest version of the wizard allows you to select between port number, port name, or port description on the first page, choose Description on the first page.
