cent0s6 basic or minimal install?

Post by benhank »

Guys I am testing different types of builds for nagios. We have a 3gig + database (and it will be growing), and I am wondering which of these install options works best with nagios.
Thanks in advance!

Code: Select all

Minimal: core files only
Basic Server: base, console-internet, core, debugging, directory-client, hardware-monitoring, java-platform, large-systems, network-file-system-client, performance, perl-runtime, server-platform

Database Server: base, console-internet, core, debugging, directory-client, hardware-monitoring, java-platform, large-systems, network-file-system-client, performance, perl-runtime, server-platform, mysql-client, mysql, postgresql-client, postgresql, system-admin-tools
Proudly running:
NagiosXI 5.4.12 2 node Prod Env 2500 hosts, 13,000 services
Nagiosxi 5.5.7(test env) 2500 hosts, 13,000 services
Nagios Logserver 2 node Prod Env 500 objects sending

We recommend using a clean minimal version of CentOS for all new Nagios XI installations:
Important: Nagios Enterprises highly recommends and will only support installing Nagios XI on a newly installed, “clean” system (a
bare minimal install with nothing else installed or configured).
Of course post install, based on your needs you may be able to get up and running with a different install version. What are your future plans, What will you be monitoring and how fast will what you are monitoring grow. It's always easier to plan ahead rather than tinker around a production server installing more and more down the road. They will both work fine but as stated above for a clean ground up installation Minimal is your best bet.

The 2012 release of Nagios XI is getting very close, and all of the outside testing by users has been completed, but we will keep you in mind should something arise.:)
