All checks are Pending

After an upgrade from 5.6 to 5.7, all checks, host and service are now stuck in a "pending" state.

Manually forcing the check does not change anything.
I see no errors in the log to indicate what the problem is.

Could you please send your /usr/local/nagios/var/nagios.log for me to pass on to the developers?

As an update, I restored to a backup taken before the upgrade. That resolved everything on our test server, but not on ouyr production server.
The production server states that the Database backend is down.
