no notifications being generated

so earlier this week my colleagues were whinging on and on about getting too many false positive alerts. so i made some changes to the notification settings for all my colleagues but apparently i REALLY changed the notification settings b/c i can't seem to get a notification generated for any alert for any users.

things i've checked / fixed with bulk mod tool:
1. users have "Enable notifications" checked
2. appropriate contacts and contact groups are assigned to appropriate hosts and services
3. alert settings for all the hosts and services are set for notifications enabled; notification time period set to 24x7
4. templates used for the different groups of humans to get different notifications (some want warnings, some want criticals, some want haikus).

what else do i need to check configuration wise?

Check
Admin -> Monitoring Engine Status -> Monitoring Engine Process Dashlet
Is the Notifications Green?

If not this will stop notifications system-wide

apparently the line "Enable notifications Enable or disable notifications for the selected users" in the notification templates was unchecked. Yay for not reading all the things.

and yes, the dashlet was green.

and yes, the dashlet was green.

and that is now my 3rd favorite button in this UI.
