Forcing a Test Log

I am in the process of setting up some new servers to log. Documentation suggests testing the logger with the following command once logging is set up to ensure it is working properly:

$logger This is a test log entry

This does not work. I am seeing log entries come in from this server, but I never saw the manual log entry. Why is this?

I just tested this and it appears to be working.

You are seeing other logs coming from syslog on this server?

In my test I searched the log for the work "entry" over the last day and they showed up after refreshing the dashboard once I sent them
