Alert <Server Name> is UNKNOWN keep triggering

the above error message we received from the Negios monitoring alerts. there is no details instead of UNKNOWN error.

We configured the Nagios monitoring and integrated with ServiceNow ticketing tool. Tickets are generated for some of the clients as Alert "<Server Name> is UNKNOWN" and no details. This is only few clients and not all the clients.

Even we log the case with Nagios case but still couldn't identify the issue.
Did any one faced such issue?

Hi,

The unknown state type means there is a service check that is not returning for some reason (i.e. network connection). To sort this out, we'll have to look at the Nagios log for more details.

How often is this alert getting generated? Is this error condition consistent or intermittent?

Please post the system profile along with the following log file and the name of the host/service sending the alert. Thanks, Benjamin

Code: Select all

/usr/local/nagios/var/nagios.log
