Nagios Core 4.4.4 supports SNMP v3 ?

Post by haseebraza »

Hi folks, Good to see you again. once again need your helping hand to fix some thing.
I have configured snmpv2 on Cisco Device and Nagios Core 4.4.4 is able to get traps successfully but I am curious about SNMP v3 will it work ?
I have gone through many guides but no one is saying that Nagios Core is supporting SNMP v3, everyone talks about the Nagios XI.

Well, in NXI, snmptrapd receives traps, passes them to snmptt, which then sends a command to nagios to process the message and update the status of the host. Thus nagios doesn't process traps at all. I would assume core is the same since NXI runs on core.

The information at https://support.nagios.com/kb/article.php?id=827 will apply to Nagios Core as well, since the underlying trap mechanisms are the same between Core and XI. Nothing in that article applies only to Nagios XI and nothing in that article requires that you use the XI interface for setting up v3 traps.
