snmp receiver problems

Post by tbarnett »

I have a stable NagiosXI system in production for 10 years. I need to receive and act on snmp traps being sent to it. I can see traps being received when i stop snmptt and as soon as I restart it the traps in /var/spool/snmptt start to go away. And they go away as long as I let it run. So I know i'm receiving traps and they are coming from expected sources. What i don't see is anything ever in snmpttunknow.log or snmptt.log. And I don't see any received traps in the nagios xi gui. I have surely missed something. Can someone help please?

What version of XI is this? There are a couple common setups depending on what version is being used. Note both use SNMPTT on the back end.

NXTI - 5.5 and newer with Enterprise edition: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... h-NXTI.pdf
Just SNMPTT - Prior to XI 5.5 or non Enterprise 5.5: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios_XI.pdf

I am running 5.7.5
I can see Associated trap definitions.
All my defined traps are Active
I know there are some errors coming in as traps since I get alerts from another system.
I don't see any Received traps. even when I create an example definition and send a test trap, no traps received.

I'm surely missing something in my setup.
I went through the whole document sent for versions above 5.5 with the same results.

Any other help would be appreciated.

Logging options are controlled by the /etc/snmp/snmptt.ini file. I've attached a copy here from working lab machine for you to compare to the one on your system. If you make any changes to the file make sure to restart the services after:

Code: Select all

service snmptt restart
service snmptrapd restart
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
