Hello,
We're setting up Nagios XI to monitor SNMP Traps from Switches.
We've encountered an particular problem we don't know how to solve in the best way possible.
We're receiving traps, that contains info if the switch is failing, is back online. or has been acknowledged / filtered.
What are the alternatives to make the monitoring of this easy? there's about a thousand switches that send trap data to Nagios XI at the moment.
Our plan is to have a Dashboard that show's the switch if there's a problem that has not been acknowledged or cleared. (kind of like the operations screen in Nagios XI)
Can we use Nagios XI for this or do we need to use the Nagios Logging server, or just buy more licenses?
Right now it only shows the latest SNMP Trap, disregarding if its a cleared message or an failing trap.
Question regarding alerts from SNMTP traps
Re: Question regarding alerts from SNMTP traps
In Nagios, for each device that in sending a Trap, there has to be an associated Host and a service.
When you asked this question,
What are the alternatives to make the monitoring of this easy?
What details are you looking for?
Are you asking how to add the Hosts easily to the Nagios server?
For the Dashboard question, an alternative is to use the Operations Center menu.
If you select the Show Filters button, you can filter on a Host Group that you put in all of the devices sending Traps and in the Service State field, you can select what state you are looking for.
And you can filter if is has been handled, etc in the Additional Filters pulldown.
That way you can show what you want.
About the Service only showing the latest trap, there is not a was to display all of them in the GUI showing the past traps which I figure you are looking for.
