setting proper frequency for hosts and services.

Post by capgemtools »

Hello,

We have a requirement that when a host goes down all of the services associated with it should not be checked so that there should not be any alert for the services as the host is already down. We have enabled "host_down_disable_service_checks=1" in the main configuration but, in some situations we do receive alerts for the services when the host is down. Is there a way to priories the checking between host and services? or what is the best way we can or what will be the best check frequency we can set to achieve this. Currently we have host frequency as 5-5-3 (5min check-5min retry-3 attempts) and service frequency is 5-5-x. The check frequency and retry frequency is 5 min but attempts are different for different services.

We have total of 3 servers out of which two servers are having a load of about 5000 services on each and the last server has about 14000 services on it.
Thanks,
Supriya

The recommendation would be to set the services check_intervals to a higher value that what the host has so that the check occurs before the service checks occur so the functionality works correctly. So you could just increase the services to 6 minutes for the check_interval.
