Dashboard LED Project

I have Nagios up and running runs like a top....I started to get into WS2812B LED's controlled by a NodeMCU and thought to myself...."It would be really cool if I could have a small strip of LED lights that would change color if a host or service had a problem" Not being a big programmer myself I wonder has anyone done something like this?
