Upgrading

Post by omarrrthepirate »

I want to upgrade to the latest version but I'm hesitant. The following message worries me: IMPORTANT: Before upgrading, verify you have both a valid system backup as well as a configuration backup of Nagios XI before continuing!

I do FTP backups. So do these FTP backups contain a system AND config backup? Or do I have to do something else to insure everything is backed up?

Also, I have no idea how to get to our test environment or if we even set one up. Thanks all.

Hi @omarrrthepirate,

Glad to hear that you have regular backups setup, and that is correct, the backup is only the XI software, and your data. Are you running in a virtualized environment? If so you can enable snapshots/system backups.

Setting up a test server is a simple procedure, you'll want to bring up another system running your operating system, install the same version of Nagios XI and then run the restore script on the backup archive.

The steps are in the guide below. Let me know if you have any specific questions on the process. We highly recommend customers test out major or minor releases on a test server before upgrading a production system.
