Proper steps to restore to new server...

Post by BIB »

Hello ssax and all from Nagios who is willing to give advice.

Old server is CentOS 6.8 x64 and new one will be CentOS 7.9, x64 too.
I tried to search and there are no specific steps to install plugins.

Steps for installing new servers are:
1. install OS, update it,
2. install same version of Nagios XI,

Now there is problems.
When to install rrdcached, when to install lpar2rrd (agent which we are using), when to install SDK for monitoring VMWare, when to restore backup from old server, when to use restore_repair.sh, how to backup rrd files from old server and when to restore it?

I tried with installing Nagios XI, start restore_repair.sh script, restore backup and installing everything noted and Nagios XI is working, but what are right steps to do this job?

Best regards,
BIB.

Hi,

Some good questions here. That is the general process and we have a knowledgebase article that covers the specific migration steps.

Migrating Nagios XI to a different Server

If you're are migrating between different versions of the same OS, it's not required to run the restore_repair.sh.

I would recommend resolving any other plugin/agent dependency after the restore (e.g. VMware).

If you have any unresolved issues, please let us know and share the system profile and we can help you take care of those.
