check_nt help needed

Post by sysmate »

Hi,

I'm trying to monitor a service on a windows server which I monitor with nagios,
I've installed NSClient on the windows server, and trying with check_nt to get the state of the service, but can't seem to get it to work.

Would very much appreciate help on the subject.

Thanks!

Hi sysmate,

Absolutely. What version of NSClient++ did you install and what happens when you try to connect with check_nt ?

Have you tried configuring it using the NSClient++ Configuration Wizard (screenshot attached) ?

Also for convenience sake here are the links to our NSClient installation and configuration guide:

Thanks and Best Regards,

Thanks for your reply.

Well, I've tried a few versions of the NSClient.. Which one should I use? :)
I did not use the Wizard, probably have misses it.. Will give it a go right now.

I've found so many different ways/commands for using the NSClient to monitor a service, could you please help me understand the right command?

Should it include -s with a password, or not? What arguments should it have?

Thanks A lot!

Hi sysmate,

Actually we are encouraging people to migrate to NCPA (Nagios Cross Platform Agent) which we're planning to make our primary agent moving forward. We're investing development resources to enhance, improve and make it more portable. That being said NSClient++, which is a third party product, is very popular and a lot of people still like to use it. We generally recommend that if you're going to go with version that is different from what is downloadable via the configuration wizard you use the latest stable version or the version that works best for your environment; sorry I know that's generic but everyone's environment is different. We do recommend using our installation guide for simplicity sake when practical (sent in the previous message). With that being said I think the Configuration Wizard will walk you through the most common options and it looks like I failed to add the "Monitoring Windows Using NSClient++" article which I will attach below.

Also here's our quick video on setting up NSClient++

Also for reference sake if you're interested, here is our NCPA getting started guide:

Download link ( You can also deploy it via the XI interface { Configure [top] -> Deploy Agent } ):

Hope this is useful.

Thanks and Best Regards,
