Nagios Core Passive checks hosts are not giving notifications to contacts

Post by fcoos »

Hi Team,

Needs some assistance to get out of one situation where I will define all scenario in below points,

>> Nagios core server is setup and multiple hosts are configured to check the active and passive both.
>> Every thing is working fine, only one issue i have is i m not getting the notifications for passive checks alerts.
>> Same setup is working well with Nagios Active checks, but Passive checks are not giving email Notifications.
>> Also, Passive checks are only showing 1/3 checks attempts instead of 3/3/checks, is this causing a problem for notifications? if yes please guide me how to overcome from this.
>> Here, i m using NSCA plugin for passive checks in Remote hosts.

Please let me know if any ideas you have to make this Notifications work for Passive checks. Thankyou in advance.

Hi @fcoos, thanks for reaching out.

I'd like to see the configuration you have set up for your passive services and for any templates that those services use, and I'd also like to see what nagios.log looks like around the time that one of these passive services should have notified.

I'm not sure about the check attempts - the Nagios Core documentation indicates that this behavior is only relevant for active checks, and in practice I don't think I've seen a passive service that had more than one check attempt. You could try changing max_check_attempts on your passive services if you wanted to, but I can't guarantee that it would fix your issue.

Please let me know if that helps or if you have further questions or concerns. Otherwise, I'm eager to see the configuration and logs.

Hi @ Sebastian Wolf,

Thank your for response and very sorry for late replying to you. As i manually made one service reachable and i am pasting the nagios login of the that service when it was not reachable.

" [1692783009] PASSIVE SERVICE CHECK: EmailValidator;Mariadb;2;connect to address 127.0.0.1 and port 3307: Connection refused "

Also i am attaching snapshot of the template i am using for the passive checks configuration.

Thanks & Regards
Ravi Kumar
