Upgrade from Cent OS 6.6 to Cent OS 9

Post by talderfer »

Hello All,

I attemted to upgrade NagiosXI Core to 5.11.2. It failed with error "Nagios XI no longer supports CentOS/RHEL 6" I m running NagiosXI Core version 5.5.9 on Cent OS 6.6 (VMware Nagios OVA). My question is how can I get to 5.11.2 on a supported version of Cent O/S. Preferably, Cent OS 9 OVA.

I read that backups cannot be restored to a different major version? Is there a way to use a new Cent OS 9 OVA and restore all configs from my current 5.5.9 build?

You may want to export the info to a file, do a full file backup, then build your system on Centos 9 and import the program. Because its so far backward it may require you to do some extra steps but it can be done.

I personally recommend Centos 8 as it would be a better upgrade path. You should also note theres alot of changes from there including PHP which in most cases if you are going from PHP 5 centos 9 will go to 8.1.

Another way you this is if you can spin up an older centos 7, install XI, import data into there then upgrade it then export that to centos 9 it could work as well.

Great, thanks for the advice! I will try installing Cent OS 8 and going from there.
