PHP 8 EOL

Post by itunixops »

As of 11/26 PHP 8.0 is now end of life. Users should go to 8.1 as soon as possible. I believe XI 5.9 and higher are certified for PHP 8.1 now. Users who are still on 7.X or lower should immediately upgrade to PHP 8.1 or better. I understand the upcoming XI 2024 is certified for PHP 8.1 or better.

It is true that XI 2024 does support PHP 8.1 however we recommend if people want this version of PHP to migrate to a distro that has this PHP baseline. Even though it is possible for users to upgrade their PHP version on a distro, the process can have issues and users may not all follow the same steps, which can create unforeseen issues.

That may be the case but we have been advised by our security teams to upgrade as that version is EOL now. In the past we have used REMI on our rhel 8 support as its more updated than the distro itself and have had no issues. I know some people still have rhel 7 which is still packaged with PHP 5 many probably have used REMI's version until they can migrate to later operating systems.

I know rhel does backporting of security fixes to older versions. I'm not sure if non rhel bases systems also do this so if anyone knows feel free to chime in. The reason we dont recommend people upgrading php versions on their own is as it can create issues for providing support. Here are a couple of links if you would like to read up on the backporting of security fixes.
