Hi,
I'm trying to re-configure a host to monitor aditional processes and services in nagios xi. I have tried to do so using the 'Re-configure the host' option under config tab when i clcik on the host, howver, I jus see the option to adjust the notification, grouping options and monitoring periods but not the actual screen where I can added those additional services. I remember seeing the configuration screen like the one we see during initial confiuration but that is not the case this time...Have I done anything wrong or any settings not enabed?
Reconfiguring the existin hosts
Re: Reconfiguring the existin hosts
Go to Configure across the top and either run the appropriate wizard to add services or go to Core Configure Manager and then services and manually add the services you want.

Re: Reconfiguring the existin hosts
i dont quite understand....are you saying that i need to go through the enitre configuration process to add an additional service when you said to run the appropriate wizard?
Re: Reconfiguring the existin hosts
If there is a wizard that handles the types of services you want to add, yes. When you enter the IP of the host and then on the next screen, as long as you enter the same name you originally configured the host for it will just add the services to that host, not create a new one.
Or, if you have another host already configured with the service(s) you want, you can use core configure manager and copy the service and then modify it to be on the proper host. If you do that method, make sure and click the "Active" check box when modifying the copied service. Also, don't forget to apply configuration when done adding all the services you want, if you do it manually.

Re: Reconfiguring the existin hosts
The first point is interesting, i would try that in the next oppurtunity, but while re-configuring it that way should i go though all the steps or can i click on finish after adding the required services, would the original monitoring, notification and group settings retained??
Re: Reconfiguring the existin hosts
Someone else can correct me if I am wrong, but you'd want to step through all the steps as those settings can be different per every service. I don't believe it will grab other services configuration, because it wouldn't know which to grab seeing as all can be different even on the same host.MSPk wrote:The first point is interesting, i would try that in the next oppurtunity, but while re-configuring it that way should i go though all the steps or can i click on finish after adding the required services, would the original monitoring, notification and group settings retained??

Re: Reconfiguring the existin hosts
Now, if you copy the service from another host and everything is the same except for the host it is for, then yo would just copy the service, modify it(change the host) and mark active, everything else would already be set.

Correct, if you run wizard against an existing host it will be additive, not removing any existing services.
Re: Reconfiguring the existin hosts
On a related note, is there a quick way to add a single service to many similar hosts at once in XI, or does it need to be done piecemeal?

Sure you can create a service definition through Configure -> CCM -> Services then add as many hosts as you like when configuring455157 wrote:On a related note, is there a quick way to add a single service to many similar hosts at once in XI, or does it need to be done piecemeal?
Additionally you can add a hostgroup and it will add the service to every host in the hostgroup.
