This is a great answer. I was looking to find something like this. Thanks.
There seems to be something missing at the Nagios XI server setup we have.

For example those command 'check_init_service' does not exist at all anywhere (neither server or clients):
command[check_init_service]=sudo /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_init_service $ARG1$

Now I understand and it makes sense. The only thing is that what you are recommending (which we would like very much to have) does not seem to work for us.
It yields an error, it can't understand the output, etc.

Let me try some of the recommendations you have made.
Meanwhile, can you suggest me any place where I can find the missing commands (e.g.: check_init_service, etc.)?

Sincerely, Ed. Thanks.

Thanks for the response. Do you have a Debian setup available? it's said to be only for RedHat and CentOS.
I will try to open it and see what happens. Need Debian and Solaris plus including Windows clients.

We do have a Solaris NRPE Agent available:

There are some custom Debian NRPE versions out there but they are not listed under supported by our staff.

As far as the Windows NRPE agent, what is used is NSClient++, this can send "among other things" NRPE check results back to Nagios:
