NagiosLS (2024R1.0.2) logstash update

Post by kvb »

We are running the most recent Nagios Logserver Version (2024R1.0.2) but had to find out, that installed logstash version is still on 2.4.1.
Also all installed logstash-plugin are outdated.

We are having issues with syslog input filter not parsing syslog lines from various different system correctly.
Recent versions of syslog input filter plugin should have fixes for this already.

Are there plan to update logstash and releated plugin to more recent release?

There are. We're working on that right now. I can't provide a release date commitment at the moment however.

That said, feel free to contact your sales representative about beta releases that will come with updated backend versions in them.
Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks for the quick reply, although the information contained is not very encouraging.
Logstash 2.4.1 is EOL since 6y+. So the term 'We're working on that right now' could mean anything
from 'it will be available in a couple of weeks' to 'it will need a few more years' to make into NagioLS.

Given this uncertainty, i doing hard to justify work time for beta testing.

Hey @kvb

Sorry that you feel that way for beta testing. Be assured that any beta testing with our products is very much appreciated and helps find issues that were not found elsewise. Due to the nature of how software is we can't give an exact date or time frame for these changes, as it will upset people if something comes up and we don't feel it is ready to push out. To stay up to date on our recent developments you can keep an eye on our changelog here.

NagiosLS to 2024R1.0.2 and updated logstash. The primary goal was to improve performance, especially for handling large volumes of logs. After the update, we've noticed a significant decrease in processing time and a more responsive system. The new logstash version seems to be more efficient in parsing and indexing logs.

What did you do here to update logstash independently of Nagios Log Server?
