Best/recommended way to monitor syslog data via Nagios

What is the best/recommended way to monitor syslog data via Nagios? I was thinking of building a vm/Centos box to capture the log files from the switches/routers/machines and using NRPE + check_logfiles to send monitoring information to Nagios.

What you have outlined here seems to be a pretty standard setup.
