BRIEF EXPLANATION ON HOW NRPE.CFG AND NAGIOS CORE PROCESS/COMMUNICATE

My boss wants a deep explanation on how Nagios Core and a Host communicate using NRPE.CFG

I'm newbie in using Nagios Core but I already discuss to him the use of nrpe.cfg but he still wants a brief explanation. Please help me.
