Dashbord Dashlets not persistent

Post by rlee8394 »

When I add a host group status Dashlet to a dashboard and then open that dashboard and move or resize the Dashlet, it does not stay persistent. If I close or open a different dashboard and then return to the original dashboard, the Dashlets are the same size and location as before I moved/resized them. Same with pinning the Dashlet. Pinning works until I exit the dashboard and then return. Is this normal behavior? Am I missing some sort of commit function for these Dashlet changes to stay persistent?

Hey @rlee8394

This isn't the intended behavior and it is saving in my machine. Could you give me a bit more information on your XI version and what distribution of Linux you are on? Could you also check your PHP logs to see if you are getting any errors when doing this? You can run tail -f on either /var/log/php-fpm www-error.log if you are on a RHEL system or /var/log/apache2/error.log if you are on Ubuntu/Debian and then doing the action again and seeing if any errors come up.

No php errors. RHEL8, Nagios XI 2024R1.3.3. Seems to work with a single dashlet. I even dragged the dotted border around the dashlet hosts list.

When you say it works with a single dashlet is this a single dashlet on a dashboard or just a different dashlet than the host group summary? If its a single dashlet on a new dashboard does it no longer persist the changes when you add a new dashlet to that dashboard?

Let me add another dashlet to the dashboard with only one and see if it persists.

That seemed to hold. Yet on another dashboard I will resize, move, and pin dashlets in a dashboard, change to another dashboard, and then back to the dashboard I resized, moved, and pinned only to find the dashlets back in their default position on the left side of the dashboard and unpinned.

That is weird. If you open up dev tools with f12 and go to the console tab do you see any errors when doing any actions on the faulty dashboard? If there's no PHP errors that we can easily see what the issue than it will probably be best to open a support ticket here. Otherwise if you don't mind recreating the dashboard in question that is having the issues that could be a work around as well. I am curious though what has made that dashboard be faulty but not others.

So, I deleted the dashboards and recreated them. I added the dashlets from the Hostgroup Status page, resized, positioned, and pinned them. Now they seem to hold. I'll keep an eye on them. Funny thing is, when I selected then to add to a dashboard, they were the correct size to begin with. Once on the dashboard they are a smaller size. Don't know why they wouldn't retain the same size as they were on the Hostgroup Status page.

Glad you were able to get a fix, hopefully it wasn't too many dashlets to readd. If the dashboards seem to break again let us know, I'm curious if it was a one off corruption of the dashboard or if there is a deeper underlying issue. I'll make a note of the sizing of the dashlet as your right they should be the same size. Hopefully we are able to update our dashboard system soon as there are some nice enhancements that could be added with existing technologies.
